For of my reviews, visit Books For YA The SelectIf the prophecy is true, I will die before reaching my fourteenth birthday If the prophecy is true, I will cause the destruction of the world The island drew us here It will draw others Like Father People who seek the truth It must not end like this So I leave this account for those who follow And I pray, than anything, that I have time to finish. The Select is the recovered journal of Burt Wender as he recorded his journey, along with his father and a few other ship crew, to find a cure for his mysterious illness.Burt, just like Jack, Aly, Cass and Marco, used to be a normal kid, before the signs of G7W genes showed up and messed with their future plans of growing up He was great with language and he s a very smart kid But if you have read the first book, The Colossus Rises, you d know that they didn t succeed in finding a cure But despite that fact, their mission wasn t futile because they found the island, where the Karai Institute and the other Select is currently taking refuge. It was a good short story, I have to admit, but I was unimpressed by how little the new information it revealed, contradicting Peter Lerangis Note to Readers, about how it will have an insane amount of effect to the current story. My Rating 3 stars The Orphan So I kept singing I sang as if my life depended on it.It always had and it always would.Daria s friend, Frada, was dying and there s only one thing she knew that could save her the magic pomegranates from the Tree of Enchantment But in order for her to get the cure, she needed to do what no one has ever dare, let alone, done successfully She has to steal a fruit from the ruthless king s most valued possession or face the wrath of King Nabu na id.We met Daria in book two, Lost in Babylon, when the four Select traveled into a parallel dimension where the ancient Babylon still existed She was the king s singer and interpreter In this short story, we will know her what her life was like before she met the Selects and how an orphan like her, who despise the king to the bones, ended up serving in the king s palace. It is, by far, a much better story than the first The plot was complex and thrilling with lots of stealthy missions and prison break riots I still don t know how this will have an effect on the main series but this is a good enough story to get lost into while waiting for the release of the next book.My Rating 4 stars right i have the I dont care how random and unrelated the background of the selected characters and their stories is vibe.to me, a novella is an e print sold as an e book or a single downloadable pdf file, and just plainly that, is hard for me to come by and actually have it.so ladies and gents, readers of all, if the author feels s he should include a touching heartbreaking background to the main characters or any relations, s he will add into the main series for all to see and not a side story where readers might or might not know about its existence.we are looking into the very origin of each books the Select, Burt Wenders for book one the Orphan, also select, Daria for book two the Key, i am only halfway through it but no doubt that Alisyah and Osman bravetyan were the selects for book three.so instead of anticipating the actual histories to the main series, the author is trying to give us accounts of the Selects, other than just our main four so the fiction universe, didnt revolve around just Jack Aly Cass Marco.well, in the end, i will still be just, Whatever i am no major in english literature or any kind to critic all the works out there or anyone reading writing the words out there.i am merely just enjoying the stories and following the author s designed plot and just so happens to like the most recent books and writings.peace.i actually wanted to express my liking to this character, Nico because, let s face it, di Angelo s might be a very distant relative lmao. The Select Burton Friedrich Wenders is dying because, like many before and after him, he is a Select Through his father s research, they have learned of an island that could unfold the mystery of Burton s condition Problems plague their sea voyage to the point that only four people survive Burton, his father, and two crew members But the worst part of their trip begins as soon as they step onto the island. The Orphan Daria will do anything to keep her friends, Frada and Nico, safe While Frada is dying, Daria enters the forbidden Hanging Gardens and steals a healing pomegranate She gets the fruit to Frada, but the king s guards arrest Nico for her crime Only by tapping into her Select ability and working with the rebels does she have a chance of saving both herself and Nico With each book in the Seven Wonders series, Lerangis will publish supplemental journals written centuries before the Jack, Aly, Cass, and Marco enter the picture The Select shows the discovery of the mystical island before the Karai Institute is founded The Orphan gives Daria s backstory before Jack, Aly, Cass, and Marco come into her life These journals are fast paced, suspenseful reads that add clarity and richness to the Seven Wonders world The next journal, The Key, will be released February 2015 Found on Children s Compass Chronicle Found on childrenscompasschronicle.blogspot.com The two novellas in the Seven Wonders Journals collection were both nice continuations of two stories that aren t fully explained or understood in the Seven Wonders world So it was fun to go back in time and live through legends, and past events that lead to what happens in the full length books of the series.Starting off with The Select , I really loved the idea of learning about Burt Wenders and his father And how they came to know about the G7W gene Because of the length of the story I found it didn t make much sense, because I felt there wasn t an overall point to the story that was told Though I did really enjoy exploring the island in this novella, and getting to see what it was like before the Karai Institute was built. But with The Orphan everything changed I absolutely loved this novella I was fond of Daria in Seven Wonders Lost In Babylon Book 2 and to get to see life from her point of view was a pleasant surprise This novella takes place before the events in Lost In Babylon.Read the rest on NORhttp www.nightowlreviews.com v5 Rev Background information is always helpful and, when reading a good series, it is always nice to know how it all began I hoped that the Seven Wonders Journals would be that segue between the past and present. It did not turn out as well as I d hoped it would This particular book contained two journals The Select and The Orphan The Select was interesting Not only did it give us a look into the first documented case of the G7W gene, but it also introduced us to the island and gave glimpses into the prophecy and the physical manifestations of the gene Though it wasn t the greatest novella known to man, it was engaging and had some information pertinent to the stories we have been following. The Orphan was the complete opposite Although the young heroine showed extreme bravery and courage, the whole story seemed out of place There didn t seem to be a connection to what we know right now about the Select and the KI Perhaps, somewhere down the road a connection will surface, but right now it just seemed random. For reviews, please visit Phoenix s Library. These companion prequels novellas to the Seven Wonders series were really fun While I don t think they could stand very well on their own, they complimented and exapanded upon certain aspects of the series The first one didn t exactly have a plot, but the second one was much better They also revealed a couple of things that made me look at some things in the series in a new light.I love the Seven Wonders series, and reading these novellas was awesome I thought these were really good, though a bit short because they are segments of a story written into a journal.I really liked the writing style I had tried reading The Colossus Rises first, but the style of writing felt a little off and I had a strong dislike the for main character. Will read the other Journals books as I can find them
